What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is a combination of physiotherapy and exercise in warm water. The pool environment is warm and weightless and the water offers gentle assistance/resistance to your movements. This allows you to exercise comfortably and effectively.
Many patients feel relief from pain when in the bath or shower. In hydrotherapy we use this relief to enable the patient to achieve the treatment goals that have been set for them. This may be to increase range of movement in restricted joints, to strengthen or stretch particular muscles or soft tissue, to improve balance or to increase/ maintain general fitness.
For many patients, finding a way to start or continue exercising while recovering from an injury or surgery will improve their sense of well being and motivates them to carry out the prescribed exercise regime.
Physiotherapists will use hydrotherapy for many conditions:
- musculoskeletal
- orthopaedic
- spinal
- neurological
So if you are recovering from surgery or injury, managing a painful condition, recovering from an illness, or just looking for a way to maintain fitness without impact, then hydrotherapy could be the answer for you.
Orthosports Medical Center is also offering hydrotherapy classes for targeting various problems:
- back problems
- hip and knee replacments
- general arthritic conditions
- exercise for obesity
