Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery involves the management of conditions related to bones and joints of the body, including any nerves, ligaments, muscles and tendons associated with their function.

Our Orthopedic Consultants:

Dr. Moosa Kazim, FACS, FRCS (C), orthopedic surgeon.  Dr. Kazim received his orthopedic training in one of the finest North American Residency Programs, the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

This was followed by further specialty training (fellowships) in sports medicine (knee, shoulder) and foot/ankle.  He then went on to the academic staff of the University of Miami in Florida as an assistant professor.  The University of Miami is a major American Hospital and Trauma Center with an active training program for orthopedic surgeons in various specialties.

Dr. Kazim then went into private practice in the Washington DC area for about 10 years as a sub-specialist doing purely sports medicine in a group of 10 busy orthopedic surgeons.  He moved to Dubai in 1996 and soon founded Orthosports Medical Center, a specialty clinic for orthopedics, sports medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Kazim’s practice covers all aspects of orthopedics and orthopedic surgery, including  certain unique procedures and techniques:

  1. Joint arthroscopy using microfracture and other specialized procedures on the articular cartilage.
  2. Specialized surgical procedures on the shoulder including arthroscopy, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and shoulder arthroplasty (joint replacement)
  3. Surgical procedures on the hip to include hip arthroscopy and surface replacement arthroplasty (hip resurfacing).
  4. Specialized reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle.
  5. Prolotherapy (involving the use of natural substances for injections instead of chemicals like cortisone).

Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon:

Dr. Manuel Garrido R., is an Orthopaedic Surgeon certified by the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, specializing in knee and shoulder surgery. During his training in London Bridge, Ealing Hospital and Droitwich Knee Clinic, he developed wide experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Osteoarthritis of the knee, ligaments and soft tissue injuries. He was also granted with the A-O fellowship in the University Hospital Salzburg (Austria) with Prof. H. Resch, expanding his knowledge in the treatment and diagnosis of shoulder injuries and new techniques of internal fixation in fractures. During his Fellowship in the Royal Orthopedic Hospital Birmingham (UK), improved his skills in minimal invasive and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder.

His special interests include:

  • Sports Injuries,
  • Knee Joint Replacement (Primary and revision) using cemented and uncemented fixation technology and new bearing surfaces.
  • Arthroscopic and minimally invasive knee and shoulder surgery.
  • Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using hamstrings, allografts and synthetic grafts.
  • Meniscus repairs
  • Corrective osteotomies in Genu valgus and varus
  • Shoulder surgery impingement syndrome, rotator cuff ruptures, instabilities and resurfacing surgery.
  • Upper limb neuropathies of the Median nerve (carpal Tunnel syndrome) and Trigger finger release.
  • General fractures.


He also worked with the professional football league in South America (Venezuela) with Caracas Football Club, and has been involved in the treatment of Sports injuries in professional and amateurs athletes along his 10 year career in Orthopedics.
